Video review...

Took some time this morning to review my squatting videos and think I was certainly a bit wider on my stance yesterday. I will shoot some current video in the next couple of weeks for comparison.
Seems when I get a little wider with my stance I try to get a bit more upright as well which doesn't exactly help matters so I will be nailing down my foot spacing over the next couple of sessions. The Scientific Process goes boink....

Now - if I can end up "out of position" - what are the chances that the average trainee is setting up differently for their lifts?

  1. Have you ever trained a client that has great form say on a swing and the next time you see them they look like they have never touched a bell?

  2. I have. I end up feeling like i've failed them. I think though they actually forget what they learned or how they moved either because they didn't practice enough or focus enough.

    Yes - the "motor challenged" client is one of the challenges for us trainers. It can be a mobility/motor learning issue so giving them one or two drills to enhance or reinforce the "forgotten" movement is usually a good strategy.

  4. If my feet are out of position by 1/2" in the deadlift, I can lose 100+ pounds. Especially when I train sumo.

    Too true - I am usually dead on with my set up but got out of wack on this day. I'll be reviewing the squat vids and nailing it down.

  6. one important thing to remember ; you can't go back to a place you've never been.Most people arent having trouble finding their normal position,they are still searching for it! I know I did for along time.
    finding your true 'power spot' where YOUR leverage advantage and where you can maximize force producution is everything.not so easy though :))
